Speaker Ghimire attends swearing-in of four ministers

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire attended the swearing-in ceremony of four newly appointed ministers on Monday.

He attended the swearing-in ceremony at the Office of the President together with President Ram Chandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal.

Earlier, Ghimire boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Sushila Karki on September 12 and the three ministers on September 15. However, National Assembly Chairperson Dahal was present on both occasions.

Ghimire was elected in the dissolved House of Representatives from CPN-UML in the 2022 election. His party has opposed the dissolution of the House of Representatives and the formation of a new government as unconstitutional. He is considered close to former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.

As per Article 91 (6)(a) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, in the event of the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the dissolved House shall remain in office until the day before the filing of nominations for the next election of the House.
