Six senior Janamat leaders quit party

KATHMANDU: Six senior leaders of the CK Raut–led Janamat Party have submitted their resignations.

Just a day after issuing an ultimatum giving Chairperson Raut 24 hours to resign, the leaders announced on Thursday that they had left the party.

Vice Chairperson Abdul Khan, Spokesperson Dr Sharad Singh Yadav, Central Coordinator of the Youth Union CK Singh, Far-Western Province In-Charge Rajaram Chaudhary and National Council Member Bikram Bahadur Bam were the leaders who announced their resignations.

After these six leaders served a 24-hour ultimatum on Wednesday, Chairperson Raut had said on social media that it might be the right time for them to step down. “I request these friends to take this opportunity to help turn the Janamat Party into one of clean, loyal, honest and active members by supporting the purification campaign,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Dr Yadav said the group was not seeking to form a new political party. “We did not leave to form a new party. We resigned only to make it easier for him (Raut),” he clarified.
