KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed all ministries, commissions, secretariats and relevant bodies to immediately send employees appointed as Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) to local levels.
According to the ministry, the decision was taken by a secretary-level meeting on Tuesday.
“Some employees appointed as Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) have still not reported to their respective local bodies. We have received complaints that this delay has affected the regular functioning of the local bodies. In light of this, the ministry has decided that those employees who have been appointed as CAOs but have not yet reported should be immediately sent to their designated positions as per the provisions of the Civil Service Act and relevant regulations,” the ministry said.
As per Section 84(4) of the Local Government Operations Act, 2017, the ministry has appointed under secretaries and section officers working in various ministries, commissions, secretariats and other government bodies as CAOs of local governments.
