KATHMANDU: Members of Generation Z took to the streets of Maitighar in Kathmandu on Saturday, protesting against corruption and the government’s decision to block social media platforms.
An organization named ‘Hami Nepali’ has sought permission to stage the rally, according to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
The youth-led rally drew an increasing crowd. Participants marched from Maitighar toward New Baneshwar amid tight security.
Many carried placards laced with satire aimed at political leaders. In a symbolic twist, they echoed and reworked a slogan once raised by former prime ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal during their protests against the dissolution of parliament. Back then, the leaders had declared, “We are here.”
The young protesters responded with their own slogan: “We are here too.”
They are carrying placards with messages like ‘Gen Z here, future clear’, ‘Freedom of expression, our right’, ‘Say no to Corruption, Say yes to integrity’, ‘Future not for sale’, ‘Revoke the bank, restore the voice’, ‘We pay, you flex—enough!’ etc.
