Nepse down 19.89 points; turnover drops to Rs 4.43 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), which snapped a two-day losing run on Monday with a 12.03-point gain, returned to losing ways on Tuesday, closing 19.89 points lower at 2,741.97.

After a brief gain during early trading, when the Nepse hit an intraday high of 2,790.4, the benchmark index lost value throughout the session and eventually closed 0.72% lower.

Unit prices of 221 scrips declined during the session, while only 29 advanced. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day with Rs 227.04 million worth of shares traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Union Hydropower Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 201.10 million and Rs 146.95 million, respectively.

Total turnover dropped to Rs 4.43 billion as only 10.53 million units were traded through 89,775 transactions on Tuesday.

All sectoral indices ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Trading sub-index, which was down 1.97%. Hydropower and Finance sub-indices followed with losses of 0.96% and 0.88%, respectively.
