BUTWAL: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has picked Dr Lekh Jung Thapa as its candidate for the by-election in the Rupandehi-3 constituency of the House of Representatives.
According to RSP Spokesperson Manish Jha, a meeting of the party’s Secretariat held on Sunday at the party’s central office in Banasthali.
To select its candidate for the by-election, the party had conducted a primary election among nine aspirants. Thapa secured the highest number of votes in the internal poll, according to the party.
Sulabh Kharel, Gyanu Paudel, Jit Bahadur Gupta, Madhu Prasad Aryal, Parthivendra Upadhyaya, Kusum Maharjan, Poonam Kumari Agrawal and Rachana Chhetri were the other aspirants from the party for the candidacy.
Dr Thapa, a senior neurologist, is a resident of Siddharthanagar-9. He has dedicated over 16 years to the development of neuroscience in Nepal and the treatment of patients.
He completed his MBBS from Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Pokhara; MD in Internal Medicine from BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences; and DM in Neurology from the College of Medical Sciences, Chitwan. He is also a graduate of Harvard University’s “Safety, Quality Leadership and Informative” program in the United States.
He has also established a scholarship fund to support underprivileged and hardworking students of local community schools.
