Nepse extends losses to third session, sheds 18.02 points

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index stretched its losing run to a third straight session, going down 18.02 points to 2,739.95 points on Sunday.

Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, reaching an intra-day high of 2,770.63 points, it pared all the gains and eventually ended the session 0.65% lower.

Nepse index has lost 36.95 points over the past three sessions and 262.12 points since it hit a four-year high of 3,002.07 points on June 29.

Unit prices of 208 scrips fell while 41 advanced during the session. Himalayan Distillery Ltd topped the turnover chart with Rs 1.75 billion worth of shares traded. Next were Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 244.77 million and Rs 233.57 million, respectively.

Total turnover improved to Rs 6.54 billion during the session with 14.09 million units traded through 58,105 transactions.

Except for the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which posted a nominal gain of 0.15%, all sector indices ended the session in the red. The Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.69%. Hydropower and Banking sub-indices followed with losses of 1.19% and 0.88%, respectively.
