Vice Presidents of Nepal, Vietnam hold delegation level meeting

KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav held a delegation-level meeting with Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, who is on a three-day official visit to Nepal, in Kathmandu on Sunday.

During the talks, the two sides discussed the shared religious traditions of both countries and the vast potential for religious and cultural tourism.

According to Prakash Adhikari, joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held in a friendly, warm and cordial atmosphere, and covered a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

The two leaders noted that relations between Nepal and Vietnam are based on friendship, goodwill and respect for sovereignty, and agreed to move forward with shared positions in international forums. They also agreed to promote exchanges of visits between ministries and at various levels. Discussions on expanding air connectivity between the two countries were held on the occasion.

Adhikari said the talks touched on Vietnam’s rapid economic growth, from which Nepal could learn, as well as the potential for investment cooperation. Matters of bilateral trade, investment, digital technology and enhancing people-to-people ties were also discussed.

This is the highest-level visit from Vietnam to Nepal so far. It coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Vice President Xuan arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday at the invitation of Vice President Yadav. She is concluding her three-day visit on Monday.
