KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) returned to losing ways after two days of gains, closing trading 9.7 points lower at 2,767.2 points on Wednesday.
Although the benchmark index rallied twice during the session, reaching an intra-day high of 2,782.99 points, it pared all the gains and eventually ended the session 0.34% lower.
Unit prices of 188 scrips declined during the session, while 60 advanced and two remained unchanged. Nepal Reinsurance Company topped the turnover chart with Rs 250.97 million worth of shares traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Chandragiri Hills were next with turnovers of Rs 217.69 million and Rs 194.06 million, respectively, traded.
Total turnover fell to Rs 5.2 billion on Wednesday, with 15.26 million units traded through 53,853 transactions.
Among trading groups, only Hotels & Tourism (2.03%) and Mutual Fund (0.6%) sub-indices posted gains. The remaining 11 sub-indices ended the session in the red. The maximum loss came from the Trading sub-index, which was down by 1.06%. Development Bank and Manufacturing & Process sub-indices logged losses of 0.76% and 0.67%, respectively.
