KATHMANDU: Nikita Poudel Lamichhane, wife of former Deputy Prime Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, has levelled serious allegations against Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
Rabi is currently in Bhairahawa Prison in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
Nikita has claimed that Minister Lekhak interfered in the judicial process related to her husband’s case. Writing a post on her social media page on Wednesday, Nikita accused the home minister of political meddling in the court’s order process by threatening judges and orchestrating complaints to the Judicial Council on days when hearings were underway.
“The privilege that other prisoners get to be transferred to another prison reached the court in my husband’s case. Even when the court issues the order, it is stopped on your instructions. Why? After the hearing is scheduled in court, your people, at your direction, file a complaint with the Judicial Council. The draft of that complaint is prepared right in your own office. How is that possible?” she wrote in the post.
She also said that she had heard from lawmakers that the home minister, law minister and prime minister make direct phone calls to the court — and that recent events had compelled her to believe it.
In her statement, Nikita said they were preparing to challenge the district court’s order at the high court. She warned that she would take the matter to an international court if necessary. “I don’t know whether I will get justice, but I will fight until I do,” she wrote.
