POKHARA: A routine complaint of theft in Syangja district has turned into a tale of deception and a secret affair.

Chandrakumari Gurung (41) of Aandhikhola Rural Municipality-1 filed a complaint with the police on July 28, claiming that gold jewellery weighing over 7 tolas (approximately 85 grams) and Rs 4,000 in cash had been stolen from her home. Her husband lives abroad.

After a week of investigation led by Inspector Pravesh Tiwari, police found no evidence of burglary in her house. Instead, it was revealed that Chandrakumari herself had staged the theft with the help of a local youth.

According to police, the youth, Dhanraj Gurung (38) — a respected community leader and head of the local youth club — would respond every time police questioned Chandrakumari about the theft. This made the police suspicious.

“Every time we questioned Manjukumari about the incident, Dhanraj would jump in with the answers,” one officer involved in the investigation said.

A close investigation revealed a secret relationship between the two. After hours of questioning, the duo admitted to hiding the jewellery and cash inside the compound of Chandrakumari’s own home.

Police have arrested the two on the charge of filing a fake complaint.
