Nepse snaps three-day losing run, closes 16.46 points higher

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) broke its three-day losing streak on Monday, closing 16.46 points higher at 2,875.36 points. The benchmark index rose 0.57% despite a volatile trading session.

The market opened strongly but dipped sharply within two hours, reaching an intraday low of 2,833.63 points. However, a late recovery pushed the index to an intraday high of 2,889.91 before it pared some gains toward the close.

Unit prices of 140 scrips advanced during the session, while 110 declined. Trading volume remained moderate, with total turnover falling to Rs 10.82 billion as 27.16 million shares changed hands.

Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd led the turnover charts with Rs 559.67 million worth of shares traded. Shivam Cements Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 436.48 million at Rs 375.85 million, respectively.

Out of 13 sectoral indices, seven closed in positive territory. The Trading sector posted the highest gain at 2.89%, followed by Banking (1.66%) and Microfinance (0.62%). On the other hand, the Finance sector saw the biggest decline of 0.82%.
