KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing run to the third session, closing 63.73 points lower at 2,858.90 points on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.
The benchmark index has shed 143.17 points after hitting a four-year high of 3,002.07 points on Tuesday.
Such was the selling pressure on the bourse after it breached the psychological 3,000-point threshold on Tuesday that the benchmark index entered a negative trajectory immediately after trading began on Sunday. It continued the downward momentum throughout the session and eventually closed 2.18% lower.
Total turnover fell by more than Rs 3 billion to Rs 13.07 billion with 32.26 million units traded through 152,518 transactions.
Unit prices of 233 scrips declined during the session, while 16 advanced. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd led the turnover chart with Rs 753.96 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Himalayan Distillery Ltd with turnovers of Rs 715.56 million and Rs 588.28 million, respectively.
All sectoral indices ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Others sub-index, which was down by 3.48%. Next were the Microfinance and Manufacturing & Processing sub-indices, which fell by 3.05% and 2.43%, respectively.
