Yadav calls for immediate relief to people of Madhesh

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal Chairperson, Upendra Yadav, has drawn the government’s attention to the need for immediate relief for people in the Madhesh Province, which has been declared a crisis-hit zone.

Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Yadav said simply declaring Madhesh a disaster-affected area will not solve the problems faced by farmers. He urged the government to provide necessary support to the people of Madhesh.

“The people in Madhesh are in urgent need of irrigation systems, drinking water arrangements, and round-the-clock electricity supply,” Yadav said. He also called for loan waivers for affected farmers, subsidies for future production, and special government assistance.

Yadav also criticized the government’s double standards on climate commitments. “On one hand, it claims the country is suffering from the impacts of climate change; on the other, it is drafting laws that would enable deforestation and hand over forest land to land mafias,” he said.
