KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) extended its gaining streak for a seventh straight session, closing 5.17 points higher at 2,978.88 points on Wednesday.
Although the benchmark index went close to breaching the 3,000-point threshold during initial trading, it erased most of the gains as the session progressed. A recovery in the closing hour ensured Nepse ended the session in the green.
This is the longest gaining streak on the bourse since March 3 when the benchmark index ended the nine-day winning run.
Despite the gain, total turnover fell slightly to Rs 19.57 billion with 44.86 million units of securities traded through 170,318 transactions. Market capitalization hit an all-time high of Rs 4,970.76 billion, up from Rs 4,962.12 billion recorded on Tuesday.
Unit prices of 152 scrips fell during the session while 98 advanced. Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session as Rs 781.02 million worth of the reinsurer’s share changed hands. Shivam Cement Ltd and Nepal Infrastructure Bank Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 752.95 million and Rs 623.30 million, respectively.
Six sectoral indices fell, while the remaining seven posted gains on Wednesday. Hotels & Tourism sub-index posted the biggest loss of 1.1%, while Finance sub-index logged the highest gain of 3.23%.
