Nepse extends gains for fifth session, closes 21.76 points higher

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its gaining streak for a fifth straight session on Monday, closing 21.76 points higher at 2,902.74 points.

Although the benchmark index breached the psychological support level of 2,900 points on Monday as well, it failed to sustain the momentum and gave up most of its gains. It ultimately closed the session 0.75% higher

Unit prices of 153 scrips advanced during the session, while 96 declined. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd continued to top the turnover chart with Rs 756.64 million worth of shares traded on Monday. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Butwal Power Company Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 752.8 million and Rs 567.98 million, respectively.

Although the benchmark index ended the session in positive territory, total turnover fell by nearly Rs 5 billion to Rs 16.32 billion on Monday. A total of 138,828 units of shares changed hands through 35.64 million transactions during the session.

All sectoral indices ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Microfinance sub-index, which was up by 2.72%. Next were the Others and Development Bank sub-indices with gains of 2.19% and 1.61%, respectively.
