KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its gaining streak into a fourth session, posting a marginal gain of 0.32 points to close trading at 2,870.95 points Sunday.
With this, the benchmark index has gained more than 145 points over the past four sessions. Although the index briefly crossed the 2,900-point mark on Sunday, reaching an intra-day high of 2,922.5 points, it erased most of the gains but still ended the session 0.01% higher.
Total turnover surged to over Rs 21.46 billion, the highest since August 18 last year, when turnover had reached Rs 28.27 billion.
Prices of 144 securities declined during the session, while 105 gained. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 985.55 million traded. It was followed by Butwal Power Company Ltd and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 642.73 million and Rs 566.27 million, respectively.
Only five sectoral sub-indices posted gains, while eight ended in the red. The Finance sub-index saw the biggest drop, falling by 2.22%, followed by the Banking sub-index, which declined by 1.45%. Conversely, the Others sub-index led the gainers, rising by 3.2%. The Life Insurance sub-index climbed 1.27%, while the Hotels & Tourism and Non-Life Insurance sub-indices each closed 1.17% higher.
