SURKHET: Police have arrested five individuals with fake currency worth Rs 1.3 million and 30 kilograms of opium in Surkhet.
A team from the District Police Office, Surkhet, arrested the five from Shantitol in Birendranagar Ward-10.
According to SP Sudhir Raj Shahi, the chief of Surkhet police, the arrests were made after a long surveillance following a tip-off about the circulation of counterfeit currency and opium trade. ”
Police have identified the arrested individuals as Dilmaya Singh Thakuri (22) and Ram Bahadur Singh (33) of Kuse Rural Municipality-5 of Jajarkot, Krishna Bahadur Oli (35) and Prem Bahadur BK from Kuse-7 and Man Bahadur Sahakari (34) from Narharinath Rural Municipality of Kalikot.
According to police, Sahakari is a promoter of a media outlet named Janagarjan Network Pvt Ltd. Police recovered counterfeit currency worth Rs 51,000 and 19.3 kg of opium from his rented apartment.
“Engaging in such illegal activities under the cover of a respectable field like media is a very serious issue,” SP Shahi said.
