Banking stocks gain as Nepse closes 29 points higher

KATHMANDU: Investors responded positively to the Monetary Policy for Fiscal Year 2025/26, as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index ended 29 points higher at 2,760.80 points on Sunday.

The benchmark index was close to breaching the psychological 2,800-point level, reaching an intra-day high of 2,797.58 points during early trading on Sunday. It, however, erased most of the gains but still ended the session 1.06% higher on the first trading day of the week.

Unit prices of 158 scrips went up during the session, while 90 declined. NIC Asia Bank Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 371.49 million worth of shares traded. Next were Butwal Power Company Ltd and NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd with turnovers of Rs 328.58 million and Rs 285.35 million, respectively.

Turnover improved to Rs 11.41 million with 32.59 million units traded through 105,415 transactions.

Banking stocks lifted the benchmark index as the Banking sub-index went up by 3.37%. Micronfinance and Finance sub-indices were also up 3.5% and 1.87%, respectively.

The Hydropower sub-index suffered the biggest loss of 0.83%. Four other sub-indices posted marginal losses.
