KATHMANDU: Eighteen people, including six Chinese nationals, have gone missing in Rasuwagadhi and surrounding areas due to floods early Tuesday morning in Lhendekhola River in Rasuwa. According to the District Police Office, Rasuwa, nine others have been rescued so far.
The incident occurred when sudden flooding hit Rasuwagadhi in Ward No. 2 of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, following heavy rainfall on the Chinese side of the border, police said.
The flood caused severe damage to the Miteri Bridge, a vital trade infrastructure with China. With the bridge completely destroyed, the movement of people and vehicles across the border has come to a halt.
Police say floods also swept away electric vehicles imported from China. Likewise, many container trucks bringing imported goods from China have also been swept away.
