ITAHARI: The four individuals, who were killed on Saturday night at Dhodlekhani in Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality-2 of Bhojpur, were cremated on Monday evening.
A collective funeral was held at Budhiganga Jamuna cremation grounds in Itahari for all four victims after post-mortem examinations at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.
According to police, Rajendra Rai (30) of Helauncha in Bhojpur Municipality-2, murdered Bel Bahadur Giri (68), his wife Manju (45), his daughter Manisha (15) and son Sapan (9) using a sharp weapon. Rajendra, who has also sustained injuries, is undergoing treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
Bel Bahadur’s eldest son lit the funeral pyre, according to Ward Chairperson Rajkumar Tamang. “The village is in deep shock as nothing like this has ever happened before,” he told Himal Press.
Police say Rajendra killed all four in a fit of rage after his wife Manisha, who had reached her maternal home a few days earlier, refused to go back with him. Rajendra reportedly killed the police after committing the crime.
