Nepse extends gains to sixth session; Rs 9.5 billion worth of shares traded

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak run for a sixth-straight session, posting a nominal 2.4-point gain to close trading at 2,706.36 points on Sunday.

Although the benchmark index dipped initially, it recovered and hit an intra-day high of 2,721.58 points midway into trading. However, it erased most of the gains as the session progressed but still ended the session in green territory.

Unit prices of 162 scrips fell and 87 advanced during the session. Nepal Reinsurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 494 million worth of shares traded. Next were Laxmi Sunrise Bank (Promoter) and Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd with turnovers of Rs 378.1 million and Rs 342.47 million, respectively.

Despite the gain, the total turnover fell slightly to Rs 9.5 billion with 27.13 million shares traded through 87,398 transactions.

Among trading groups, six ended the session in the red, while seven posted gains. The biggest gain came from the Others sub-index, which was up by 3.06%. The Finance sub-index also ended 2.49% higher. On the other hand, the Development Bank sub-index posted the highest loss of 1.53%.
