KATHMANDU: An arrest warrant has been issued for Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Madhesh Province Chairperson Ashok Kumar Yadav in connection with a criminal misconduct case.

The Sarlahi District Court issued the warrant after Yadav was accused of vandalizing a police vehicle and threatening police officials.

According to police, Yadav used abusive language and issued threats to Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar Khadka and was involved in the vandalism of the vehicle used by DSP Saroj Rai.

DSP Rai said the police team had reached Yadav’s residence on Thursday night to take him into custody. However, Yadav’s supporters pelted stones and damaged the vehicle, Rai added.

The incident followed a heated dispute between SP Khadka and Yadav on Thursday evening at the Infrastructure Office in Malangwa, reportedly over a cheque being issued under police supervision.

Yadav, who is also a former member of the Madhesh Province Assembly, is heard in a leaked audio clip accusing SP Khadka of coming to Madhesh “to loot and take commissions”.
