KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has decided to hold its statute convention in Lalitpur on September 5.
A meeting of the party’s Central Secretariat held in Laltipur on Wednesday decided to organize the statute convention at the Sunrise Convention Hall in Godavari.
The meeting also decided to present Chairperson KP Sharma Oli’s political proposal, Vice Chairperson Bishnu Prasad Paudel’s statute amendment proposal and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel’s organizational proposal for discussion at the convention.
The meeting also decided to call a meeting of the Central Committee to discuss the statute amendment proposal on July 21. The statute amendment proposal finalized by the Central Committee will then be forwarded to lower party committees for discussion and feedback.
The party is also holding a meeting of its Politburo on July 18.
The statute convention is expected to hold intense discussions on the age and term limit for the office-bearers of all party committees. While some leaders say the party has already decided to cap the age limit at 70 and the term limit at two for office-bearers, Oli has been stating that no such provisions exist.
