Gandaki: Maoist Center lawmaker tears budget booklet

POKHARA: A CPN (Maoist Center) lawmaker has torn the Gandaki Province budget booklet at the rostrum during a provincial assembly session on Sunday.

Speaking in the provincial assembly meeting on Monday, Resham Bahadur Jugjali, who is also a former Minister for Physical Infrastructure, expressed outrage at the budget for 2025/26, claiming that it discriminated against districts like Myagdi.

Jugjali, who represents Myagdi  (B) constituency, accused the Chief Minister and Economic Affairs Minister of allocating the budget mainly to their districts. “Myagdi has been treated unfairly for two years in a row,” he said. “This year’s budget holds no meaning for Myagdi. So with permission from the Honourable Speaker, I wish to tear it. Thank you.”

Jugjali pointed out that only around Rs 35 million worth of new projects were selected for Myagdi, most of which were proposed by the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, not his party.

Stating that economic affairs and physical infrastructure ministers may have excluded Myagdi simply because they are unaware of the district’s conditions, he, sarcastically, proposed to take them on a tour from Gurja to Narchyang and Darakhola at his own expense.

The provincial government has presented a budget of Rs 31.97 billion for the next fiscal year, which begins in mid-July.
