KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has said that the government is committed to a two-point agreement between the ruling coalition and the main opposition regarding the ‘visit visa’ controversy.

Participating in a discussion on the Appropriation Bill, 2025, in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, Bartaula said a mechanism to implement the agreement would be formed within a few days. “The government stands by the understanding reached with the opposition. We won’t wait for a month. We will form the mechanism within five days,” he said. “Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak will formally announce the formation of the mechanism in Parliament.”

Bartaula’s remarks came after CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey urged the government earlier in the day not to delay the formation of the investigative mechanism, as agreed with the opposition.

Bartola also expressed dissatisfaction with the continued obstruction of the House session by lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
