KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) held consultations with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday regarding the by-polls for the vacant seats in the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies and local units.
A delegation led by Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari met Prime Minister Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Friday.
The discussions focused on holding by-elections for vacant seats in the House of Representatives, provincial assemblies and local units in the last week of October. Likewise, the PM also sought information from the EC officials about preparations to fill 18 seats in the National Assembly that will fall vacant on March 4 next year.
The Rupandehi-3 seat of the House of Representatives, Manang B seat of the Gandaki Province Assembly and 13 positions of ward chairpersons in different local units are lying vacant.
The EC is preparing to announce the by-election date by the end of June.
Prime Minister Oli assured the EC officials that the government would extend necessary support to the EC.
EC Commissioners Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher Jabara, along with senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, were also present at the meeting.
