NC Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire has said that the issue of visit visas should not be equated with human trafficking.
Speaking to reporters on the Parliament premises on Thursday, Ghimire argued that since people are travelling abroad on visit visas of their own volition, it is inappropriate to associate the matter with human trafficking.
“The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is looking into the visit visa issue, and no case has been prosecuted yet. It is therefore premature to declare anyone guilty,” Ghimire said.
He added that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is finding it difficult to backtrack after making excessive demands on the matter.
Ghimire, however, expressed confidence that a consensus would be reached through dialogue. “The issue will be resolved within a few days,” he added.
RSP has been obstructing parliament proceedings since May 26, demanding an investigation into the involvement of Home minsiter in the visit visa controversy.
