KATHMANDU: The government is expected to appoint the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday.
Ruling coalition partners, the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, have already agreed to appoint former vice chairperson of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr Bishwo Paudel, as the next governor.
According to a member of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, a cabinet meeting has been called for 5 pm to formalize the decision.
Meanwhile, the Governor Recommendation Committee, chaired by Bishnu Prasad Paudel, is holding its meeting at 4 pm. Former Governor Dr Maha Prasad Adhikari and Economist Dr Posh Raj Pandey are the other members of the committee. The committee will have to forward a three-name shortlist to the cabinet.
The position of governor has been vacant since early April.
