KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index continued its downward trend, dropping 14.87 points to close at 2,634.23 on Tuesday.
With this, the benchmark index has extended its losing streak to three straight sessions. Over the past three sessions, the index has shed a total of 39.46 points.
Although the index went up in early trading, it erased all the gains as the session progressed and eventually ended the day 0.56% lower.
Share prices of 168 companies declined during the session, while 77 advanced and one remained unchanged. Universal Power Company Ltd posted the highest turnover of the session with Rs 672.08 million worth of shares traded. Next were Ngadi Group Power Ltd and Nepal Microinsurance Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 529.06 million and Rs 512.53 million, respectively.
Total turnover fell to Rs 9.63 billion compared to Rs 10.01 billion in the previous session. A total of 21.82 million units of securities were traded through 102,445 transactions on Tuesday.
Only three trading groups posted gains on the day, while 10 others posted losses. Life Insurance logged the highest growth of 0.95%, while Trading logged the biggest loss of 2.46%.
