KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai has tendered her resignation.
According to a source at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Bhattarai handed her resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli late Monday afternoon.
Bhattarai’s resignation comes at a time when school teachers across the country are protesting in Kathmandu. At the call of the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT), school teachers have been demonstrating in Kathmandu for the past 21 days, demanding, among others, immediate enactment of the School Education Bill.
Minister Bhattarai was under pressure as school teachers have said that they won’t evaluate answer sheets of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and boycott Grade 12 examination duties until the School Education Bill is enacted.
