Lingden, other RPP leaders arrested from Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Several leaders of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), including Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, were arrested from Singha Durbar on Sunday.

Police arrested the leaders for organizing a demonstration in a restricted area.

According to RPP Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, Chairperson Lingden, Vice-Chairperson Buddhi Man Tamang and Spokesperson Gyanendra Shahi, among others, were arrested by police in Singha Durbar.

“After concluding an internal party meeting at the parliamentary party office, Chairperson Lingden and other leaders were arrested inside Singha Durbar while heading on foot to the protest site in Bijulibazar,” Shrestha said.

He demanded the immediate release of the leaders, who were on their way to participate in a peaceful demonstration.

The leaders have been taken to the Kathmandu Police Range, Bhandarkhali.

Before his arrest, Lingden accused the government of attempting to suppress democratic rights. “The government is trying to curb our rights to speak, write and protest, which is why we held a symbolic demonstration near its doorstep,” he added.

The RPP has demanded the formation of a judicial inquiry commission to investigate the Tinkune incident on March 28. It has also called for the immediate release of its leaders, including Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shamsher Rana.
