KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the demands of school teachers and staff will only be addressed if there is a guarantee that ongoing protests will stop.
Oli set the condition during a meeting with officials of the Nepal Professional Federation affiliated with the CPN-UML, according to a member of the federation who was present in the meeting.
In the meeting, Oli said that the School Education Bill will be passed through the parliamentary process. “The demands of teachers, which can be addressed by the Cabinet, will be met only if there is confidence and a guarantee that the protests will end,” Oli said in the meeting, according to the member.
Oli also said that the concerned parliamentary committee is working tirelessly to finalize the Bill. “Work on the bill is ongoing. It would have been better if teachers and employees had not taken to the streets,” he added.
The Prime Minister assured that he would expedite the process to pass the Bill. “He, however, hinted that it might not be finalized in the upcoming parliamentary session,” the member added.
