20 central committee members resign from NC’s women wing

KATHMANDU: Twenty Central Committee members of the Nepal Women’s Association (NWA), which is affiliated to the Nepali Congress (NC), have resigned en masse.

They tendered their resignations to NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday, expressing dissatisfaction with the working style of President Usha Raut. They have alleged that the NWA has failed to advance any work stipulated in the association’s statute.

“We had requested the President to conduct the organization’s activities transparently and fulfill the designated responsibilities within the given timeframe. Due to the chairperson’s lack of response and initiative on these issues, the reputation and structure of this organization have been gradually declining. Since we cannot sit idly by and watch this decline, we have tendered this collective resignation for the sake of the party and the bright future of the NWA,” the resignation letter reads.

Those tendering their resignations include Chandradevi Joshi, Rita Shahi, Chhaya Sunar, Dr Amita Pradhan Shakya, Uma Shiwakoti, Ranjita Giri, Dr Sita Ghimire, Tara Thapaliya, Sushma Tiwari, Laxmi Barakoti, Navodita Chaudhary, Bhagwati KC, Mira Devi Chand, Parvati Chand, Geeta Gurung, Rama Aryal, Lilakumari Nepal, Radha Kunwar, Sanisha Bhetwal and Parvati Acharya.

These executive committee members are said to be close to General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala.
