Nepse up 23.86 points; turnover falls to Rs 5.44 billion

KATHMANDU: The stock market witnessed a notable upswing on Friday, as the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index climbed 23.86 points to close at 2,700.4 points.

This marks the first time that the index has surpassed the psychological support level of 2,700 points since March 17, signaling renewed investor confidence in the secondary market. The rally comes after a correction on Tuesday, which had snapped three consecutive sessions of gains.

Unit prices of 166 scrips advanced on Wednesday, while 78 recorded declines. A total of 318 scrips were traded during the session, with 10,442,683 shares changing hands across 53,884 transactions.

CEDB Holding Company Ltd led the turnover charts with Rs 365.55 million worth of shares traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and  Ngadi Group Power Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 350.65 million and Rs 273,24 million, respectively.

Except for Manufacturing & Processing and Non-life Insurance, which witnessed nominal losses, all trading groups ended the session in the green.  The Trading sub-index emerged as the standout performer, surging by an impressive 9.44%, while the Finance sub-index also posted a solid gain of 3.12%.

Although the benchmark index posted gains, total market turnover fell to Rs 5.44 billion compared to Rs 5.79 billion on Tuesday.
