KATHMANDU: Five ordinances introduced by the government have been approved by the House of Representatives.

A meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday approved the Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Good Governance Promotion and Public service delivery; Economic Procedures and Financial Responsibility (First Amendment) Ordinance; Privatization (First Amendment) Ordinance; Ordinance to amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Improving the Economic and Business Environment and Promoting Investment; and Ordinance to amend certain Nepal Acts Related to Cooperatives.

The government had introduced six ordinances in the first week of January. Of them, the government has not yet presented the land-related ordinance in the lower house for a decision. Parties like Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), which have extended support to the current coalition government, have publicly said that they would not support the land-related ordinance.

CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), JSP Nepal and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) supported the ordinances, while the CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) opposed the ordinances.

These ordinances must also be approved by the National Assembly.
