KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office, Taplejung, has issued prohibitory orders following a clash between police and supporters of the ‘No Cable Car’ movement in district headquarters Phungling on Saturday evening.
Eight police personnel and four protesters were injured in the clash.
The local administration has enforced restrictions in Phungling Bazaar and the Kaflepati-Balludanda area. Gatherings of more than five people, rallies, and demonstrations are prohibited in these areas.
The clash occurred at Birendra Chowk when protesters attempted to hold a torch rally on Saturday evening.
Some local people and organizations have been opposing the construction of cable car at the Pathibhara Temple in the district, saying that commercialization would destroy the region’s religious and cultural significance.
