KATHMANDU: Thailand has won the Nepal Women’s T20 Tri-series with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Nepal in the last match of the series at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Friday.
Thailand won five out of six matches of the series – winning all three games against Nepal and two against the Netherlands. The Netherlands stood in the seventh position with four wins and two losses – both to Thailand. Nepal lost all six matches of the home series.
Batting first, Nepal could score only 81 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Thailand overcame the target losing three wickets with 18 balls to spare.
Opener Samjha Khadka top-scored for Nepal scoring 17 off 29 balls. Kabita Joshi contributed 14, and Rajmati Airee and Captain Indu Barma chipped in with 11 and 10 runs, respectively. Other Nepali batters failed to reach double digits.
Onnicha Kamchomphu claimed three wickets for Thailand giving just 15 runs in her four-over spell. Chaida Sutthiruang, Nattaya Boochatham and Suleeporn Laomi took one wicket each.
Thailand, which needed to avoid a heavy defeat to Nepal to win the series, batted sensibly. Although it lost the first wicket with just 10 runs on board, Captain Naruemol Chaiwai scored an unbeaten 27 and Nannapat Koncharoenkai contributed 23 to steady Thailand’s innings. Opener Nattaya Boochatham scored 11.
Indu Barma took two wickets for Nepal, while Puja Mahato claimed one.
