KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane has posted Rs 27.9 million in bail in multiple cooperative fraud cases.
On Thursday, Lamichhane furnished a bail amount of Rs 5.4 million at the Chitwan District Court. District Judge Dayaram Dhakal’s bench ordered his release on a bail of Rs 5.4 million in the Sahara Chitwan Cooperative fraud case that began on Wednesday,
Lamichhane, a former shareholder, director and managing director of Gorkha Media Network, had previously been granted bail in cooperative fraud cases in Kaski, Kathmandu, and Rupandehi districts.
The Rupandehi District Court released him on a bail of Rs 10 million in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case on January 26. Similarly, in the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative fraud case, he was released on bail of Rs 6 million by the Kathmandu District Court on January 15. Earlier, the Kaski District Court had ordered his release on December 9 in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case on a bail of Rs 6.5 million. Investigations are ongoing in Parsa district regarding his alleged involvement in the Sano Paila Cooperative fraud case.
The Chitwan District Court issued its order following a detention hearing that began on Wednesday, according to Court Registrar Bishnu Prasad Acharya. Rajan Gautam, a central member of the RSP, stated that Prabhu Bank provided the bank guarantee for the Rs 5.4 million bail.
