Nepal suffers fifth straight loss in 10-wicket defeat to Netherlands

KATHMANDU: Nepal suffered its fifth straight loss in the Nepal Women’s T20 Tri-series, conceding a 10-wicket defeat to the Netherlands at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Batting first, Nepal scored 145 – its highest score in the series so far – for the loss of four wickets, helped by Puja Mahato’s magnificent half-century. In reply, the Netherlands scored 151 without losing any wicket, with two balls remaining.

Although Nepal lost openers Samjhana Khadka and Mamta Chaudhary for 6 and 1, respectively, Captain Indu Barma and Mahato steadied Nepal’s innings. Barma fell for 39 off 37 balls, while Mahato scored 62 off 51 balls. This is the highest score by a Nepali batter in the series so far. Rubina Chhetry contributed 20, while Kabita Joshi remained unbeaten at 7.

Iris Zwilling took two wickets for the Netherlands, while Caroline de Lange and Heather Siegers claimed a wicket each.

Openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sterre Kalis made light work of the chase as the Netherlands chased the target without losing any wicket. Molkenboer scored an unbeaten 48 off 49 balls, while Kalis remained not out at 98 runs off just 69 balls. She clubbed 11 fours and two sixes in her aggressive knock.

With this, Nepal lost all three games against the Netherlands in the series. Nepal will play its last match of the series against Thailand on Friday.
