KATHMANDU: Thailand continued its winning streak in the Nepal Women’s T20 Tri-Series, defeating the hosts Nepal by four wickets at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu on Saturday. This victory marks Thailand’s second consecutive win, while Nepal suffered its second straight loss in the tri-series which also features the Netherlands.
Batting first, Nepal posted a below-par 101 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Thailand scored 102 for the loss of six wickets with six balls to spare.
Kabita Kunwar and Bindu Rawal scored 25 runs each for Nepal, while Indu Barma contributed 15. However, the rest of the Nepali batters failed to reach double digits.
Thailand’s bowlers put on a disciplined performance, with Tripatcha Putthawong leading the charge by claiming three wickets. Phannita Maya and Nattaya Boochatham supported with two wickets each, while Chanida Sutthiuang chipped in with one wicket.
In reply, Thailand faced early setbacks as Nepal’s bowlers dismissed both openers for just one run each. However, Nannapat Koncharoenkai anchored the chase with a brilliant unbeaten 60 off 58 balls. She received support from Naruemoil Chaiwai (13) and Suwanana Khiaoto (14) from the other end. Nannapat’s match-winning knock followed her unbeaten 56 against the Netherlands on Friday.
Manisha Upadhyay picked two wickets for Nepal, while Rubina Chhetry and Kabita Joshi claimed one wicket each.
Nepal plays its second match against the Netherlands in the tri-series on Sunday.
