KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) has lifted the title of Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup2024, defeating Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) in the three-match by 28 runs in Birgunj on Thursday.
TAC, which had taken a 37-lead against NPC in the first inning, bundled out the fellow departmental side for 139 runs in the second inning. Chasing 103 runs to lift the trophy, TAC was all out for 74 runs in the second inning.
NPC, which took a 95-run lead on Day 2, extended its lead to 102 as its last pair added seven runs to end the innings at 139 overs. Basir Ahamad took NPC’s last wicket to complete his five-wicket haul.
TAC came under pressure in the chase when it lost opener Trit Raj Das for two in the first over. Santosh Karki (0) followed in the next over who was soon joined by Bhim Sharki (5) and Basir Ahaamd (7). The other opener Imran Sheikh scored 28 off 71 balls but did not get support from the other end. Captain Binod Bhandari and Sompal Kami fell, scoring 11 runs each, while Bibek Yadav was out for 8, Sumit Shreshta did not open his account and Aakash Chand fell for 1.
Sagar Dhakal claimed six wickets for NPC, while Lalit Rajbanshi took four wickets.
A total of four teams, including Madhesh Province and Bagmati Province, participated in Jay Trophy. The round-robin matches were held in the two-day format while the final was played in the three-day format.
