Both matches of Joy Trophy end in a draw

KATHMANDU: The Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup 2024 match between Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Nepal Police Club (NPC) has ended in a draw.

In Match No. 1 of the Cup played in Birgunj, Nepal Police Club scored 88 runs for the loss of five wickets while chasing the 172-run target set by TAC.

Amit Shrestha top-scored for NPC with a 66-ball 36, while Arjun Saud and Rashid Khan contributed 19 and 10 runs, respectively, to avoid defeat. Other NPC batters failed to reach double digits in the second innings.

Aakash Chand and Shahab Alam claimed two wickets each for TAC, while Pawan Karki took one wicket.

TAC, which trailed NPC by four runs in the first innings, earlier scored 175 runs in 53 overs. Sompal Kami played a superb knock with an unbeaten 82 from 38 balls. Trit Raj Das, Bhim Sharki, and Bibek Yadav contributed 34, 15, and 11 runs, respectively.

Kushal Bhurtel secured four wickets for NPC, while Gulsan Jha got three. Similarly, Lalit Rajbanshi and Rashid Khan claimed two and one wicket, respectively.

TAC restricted NPC to 125 runs in the first innings, thanks to Shahab Alam’s eight-wicket haul. Gulsan Jha top-scored for NPC in the first innings with a 47-ball 54.

Despite the draw, NPC accumulated 21 points, including 14 bonus points, thanks to its first-innings lead. TAC has 16 points.

Mayan ton helps Madhesh secure draw against Bagmati

Mayan Yadav’s century helped Madhesh Province earn a draw against Bagmati Province in Match No. 2 of the Jay Trophy Men’s Elite in Janakpur on Sunday.

Madhesh, which trailed Bagmati by 48 runs in the first innings, declared in the second innings when it reached 211 for the loss of nine wickets. Chasing a target of 164 runs, Bagmati ended the day at 97 for the loss of six wickets.

Mayan scored 106 off 108 balls for Madhesh, while Abhishek Tiwari and Niraj Yadav contributed 19 and 17 runs, respectively. Similarly, Bishal Patel and Supresh Singh scored 14 each.

Sandeep Lamichhane, who had taken five wickets in the first innings, claimed five more wickets in the second innings for Bagmati. Surya Tamang took two, while Rijan Dhakal and Nandan Yadav got a wicket each.

In reply, Ashutosh Ghiriaya and Rit Gautam added 47 runs for the first wicket for Bagmati. Shubh Kansakar scored 23, and Pratish GC scored 16 to avoid defeat for Bagmati.

Harishankar Shah claimed three wickets for Madhesh, while Rupesh Singh, Abhishek Tiwari, and Ranjit Kumar had a wicket each.

Bagmati collected 22 points, while Madhesh collected 17 points.
