Elderly man killed in robbery attack in Mahottari

KATHMANDU: An elderly man was killed in an attack by a group of robbers in Manara Shisawa Municipality-4 of Mahottari on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Sushil Jha, a former Village Development Committee (VDC) secretary. According to Mahottari District Police spokesperson DSP Santulal Prasad Jaiswar, Jha was found dead inside his house following the attack.

The robbers, reportedly a group of 7-8 individuals, broke into Jha’s house late at night to loot valuables. When Jha resisted, they allegedly strangled him to death.

Jha was living with his wife when the armed robbers entered their home. They stole a gold ring, a necklace (mangalsutra), and approximately Rs 80,000 in cash, said DSP Jaiswar.

“We are currently at the crime scene,” DSP Jaiswar told Himal Press. “The robbers, armed and in a group of 7-8, looted the gold jewelry and cash. Further investigation is ongoing.”

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
