SC dismisses petition challenging UML’s decision to accept land donation

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the CPN-UML’s decision to accept a land donation for its central office building.

A division bench comprising Justices Abdulaziz Musalman and Balkrishna Dhakal delivered the verdict on Monday, as per information posted on the apex court’s website.

Min Bahadur Gurung, proprietor of the Bhat-Bhateni Group, has donated 10 ropani and 14 ana of land for the UML’s office building. Gurung, alongside CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, laid the foundation stone for the building on October 11. Gurung has also pledged to cover all construction costs for the project.

Advocates Dr. Gyan Bahadur Basnet and others had filed the petition, arguing that accepting a land donation from a businessman facing corruption allegations constituted a conflict of interest.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued a temporary interim order directing the defendants to halt construction work until a final decision was reached.
