KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Ravi Lamichhane is being taken back to Pokhara from Birgunj on Wednesday.

Lamichhane recorded his statement at the District Government Attorney’s Office, Parsa, on Tuesday. He is being brought back to Pokhara today (Wednesday). According to Parsa police, the questioning continued till 2:30 pm.

Police in Parsa are investigating Lamichhane’s alleged role in the transfer of deposits from Birgunj-based Sano Paila Cooperatives to Gorkha Media Network. Lamichhane served as the managing director of the media company before he founded RSP ahead of the 2022 general election.

He was brought to Pokhara via Kathmandu on Monday for questioning.

Lamichhane, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, has been in the custody of the District Police Office, Kaski, since October 19. While in custody, he was transferred to Rupandehi, Kathmandu, and Chitwan to record statements on similar allegations.

Police in five districts—Kaski, Rupandehi, Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Parsa—are investigating Lamichhane and several others in connection with cooperative fraud cases, organized crime, and money laundering charges.

Kaski police secured a four-day remand extension for Lamichhane from the Kaski District Court on Sunday. This means police must present him before the court on Thursday.
