KATHMANDU: The market extended its losing run for a fourth session on Monday, as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index fell 12.84 points and closed trading at 2,676.15 points.
Although the benchmark index initially posted gains and breached the 2,700-point level, it erased all the gains and eventually ended the session 0.47% lower.
Daily turnover also fell to Rs 5.62 billion – the lowest since November 6 when securities worth Rs 4.4 billion were traded on the bourse.
Share prices of 138 companies declined during the session, while 92 advanced and 13 remained unchanged. NRB Infrastructure & Development Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 352.72 million worth of shares traded. Next were Himalayan Distillery Ltd and Joshi Hydropower Company Ltd with turnovers of Rs 279.15 million and Rs 124.69 million.
Three trading groups posted gains during the session, while 10 ended in red. The biggest gain came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index which was up by 1.06%, while the Life Insurance sub-index logged the biggest loss of 1.67%.
A total of 11.52 million units of shares were traded on Monday through 62,758 transactions – the lowest since November 6.
