KATHMANDU: Historian Purushottam Shamsher Rana passed away in Lalitpur on Thursday. He was 99.
He passed away while undergoing treatment at Nepal Mediciti Hospital on Thursday, his daughter-in-law Bhagwati Rana confirmed. He is survived by a son and two daughters.
According to family sources, he will be cremated at the Pashupatinath cremation grounds on Thursday.
Rana is known for books like Shree Teen Haruko Tathya Brittanta, Mero Jeevanka Smritiharu, Samjheka Ra Suneka Kuraharu and Lukechhipeka Pratibhaharu. His works are considered essential resources for studying the Rana era.
He was the grandson of Rudra Shamsher, the third son of Bir Shamsher. Rudra was removed from the line of succession to the prime ministership by Rana Prime Minister Juddha Shamsher.
