KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, has urged newly appointed Nepali ambassadors and exporters to promote economic diplomacy.
Speaking at an interaction with the newly appointed ambassadors and exporters at the finance ministry on Tuesday, she said that the ministry has taken a policy decision to prioritize economic diplomacy to fulfill the country’s development and prosperity aspirations.
“At a time when the Nepali economy is struggling to gain momentum for various reasons, it has become crucial for Nepali missions abroad to promote economic diplomacy. I encourage you to attract investments to Nepal from countries where you will be stationed, highlight local opportunities, and focus on export promotion,” Minister Rana said.
She also urged the new ambassadors to make economic diplomacy programs more effective and results-oriented. Acknowledging the lack of adequate resources and human resources at Nepali missions, Rana said the ministry recently conducted an organizational and management survey to immediately fulfill additional human resource requirements. “I am hopeful that the added personnel will bring agility and effectiveness to the performance of the ministry and diplomatic missions,” she added.
On the occasion, she advised Nepali exporters and businesspeople to improve the packaging of their products so that they become competitive in international markets. She also requested exporters to approach Nepali missions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if they encounter any challenges in the export of their products.
