KATHMANDU: Joint Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has taken charge as the Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The position had become vacant with the transfer of Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. A cabinet meeting held on Thursday took the decision.
“With a distinguished career spanning diplomacy and governance, Rai has served as Ambassador to the UN and South Africa, and held pivotal roles in Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the ministry said in a social media post on Monday.
Rai has also served as the Vice-President of 77th Session of the UN General Assembly, Chairperson of the 75th UNGA Second Committee and Chairperson of Global Coordination Bureau for LDCs.
The government has nominated Secretary Lamsal as Nepal’s ambassador to the European Union. She will take up the ambassadorial position upon her retirement as the secretary.
